Father Peter Tinney – Our New Rector
Fr Peter was deaconed on the 1st March 1984 and priested a year later in Perth. He recognised an early call to ministry and began training for ordained ministry at St John’s College Morpeth. His background includes parish ministries in diverse communities in Western Australia and North Queensland. He also spent considerable time working in chaplaincy, 13 years as a Chaplain in the Royal Australian Navy and he also spent time working for Anglicare/Samaritans in both North Qld and Newcastle Diocese.
He is committed to community and justice issues, seeing this as a practical expression of Christian faith; acknowledging that our human and spiritual journeys are shared in service of our brothers and sisters. Fr Peter and his wife Fiona have spent the last seven years working in Parish Ministry in the Diocese of Wangaratta. He encourages people to embrace God’s love, exploring the scriptures and celebrating the faith in both new and traditional ways.
Fr Peter has recently held the position of Area Dean of the North West of Wangaratta Diocese and played an active role on Bishop in Council, as well as various Diocesan committees including the Social Justice Committee and as the Spiritual Director for Cursillo.
On a personal level Fr Peter is a member of the RSL and both he and Fiona have been active members of Rotary. Fiona has a background in Business Development and Communications having worked for Newcastle Newspapers, Samaritans and most recently with Wangaratta Diocesan Office. Between them Fr Peter & Fiona have 7 children and 11 grandchildren and they are excited to be moving a little closer to some of their family.
Fr Peter and Fiona work as a team and walk with people to strengthen the church, to encourage their faith and to build important connections with the local community.
